이 작업은 '낙관' 이라는 단어가 가진 두 가지 의미(signature & optimism)를 기묘한 이야기로 풀어낸 실험적 그래픽노블로, 꿈과 용기 그리고 그 가운데에서 느끼는 깨달음에 대한 작품이다.

지난 8년간 작업해 온 나의 그림들이 어느 순간 어떤 방향을 가리키고 있다는 것 깨달았을 때,

그 깨달음을 이야기로 보여줘야 겠다고 생각했다. 그리고 글과 그림만으로 담을 수 없는 뉘앙스를 표현하기 위해서 그래픽노블이라는 레이어를 사용하게 되었다. 나는 이 작업을 통해 지난 시간을 겪어온 나를 마침내 구원할 수 있었다.

This work  is an experimental graphic novel that unravels the dual meanings of the word ‘Nak-Kwan’ through a series of uncanny tales. It is a work that explores dreams, courage, and the moments of awakening found in between.

When I realized that the paintings I had created over the past eight years were pointing in a specific direction, I felt a deep need to translate that realization into a story. I chose the medium of the graphic novel to capture the subtle nuances that text and illustrations alone could not hold. Through this process, I was finally able to find salvation for myself for having endured those passing years.

SF소설 < 진화신화 >의 그림책버젼 작업입니다. 숨어있는 글의 뉘앙스를 살리기 위해 주인공의 이야기에 '달'의 이야기를 삽입한 이중구조로 작업하였고, 기하학적이고 상징적인 표현들을 통해 판타지의 분위기를 극대화 했습니다.

 This is a picture book version of the science fiction novel "Evolution Myth". To preserve the nuances of the hidden text, I worked with a dual structure in which the story of the moon was inserted into the main character's story, and maximized the atmosphere of fantasy through geometric and symbolic expressions.

SF소설 < 진화신화 >의 일러스트레이션 신장판 작업입니다. 소설을 처음 읽었을 때 많은 장면들이 색채의 이미지로 느껴졌습니다. 그래서 파랑, 빨강, 노랑, 검정, 초록 다섯가지 메인컬러를 바탕으로 미스테리한 분위기의 이미지를 만들었습니다. 

This is an illustration extension of the science fiction novel "Evolution Myth". When I first read the novel, many scenes felt like images of colors. So, I created images with a mysterious atmosphere based on five main colors: blue, red, yellow, black, and green.

이 책은 밤산책을 하며 떠올렸던 생각과 이미지들을 엮은 하나의 일기같은 비주얼에세이 작품입니다. 불안함으로 하얗던 긴긴 밤들이, 동틀녘의 밝은 빛이 되길 바라는 마음을 담아 만들었습니다.

 

This is a diary-like visual essay that combines the thoughts and images that came to mind while taking a night walk. It was created with the hope that the long white nights with anxiety would be the bright light of dawn.

This book is about the forest in each person's heart. It contains the thoughts of anxiety that grows on its own like a forest. When you're scared of the shadows of the forest and want to run away, I hope this book will be a small courage to face the forest.
